Former Minister of Humanitarian Services, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and Senator Ajibola Basiru were on Friday night returned unopposed as national chairman and national secretary respectively of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The two APC national leaders were elected at the 4th elective national convention of the Party which held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The APC’s national convention election committee announced their election amongst several other officials returned through consensus arrangement.
The APC had last week announced that it would retain the existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee (NWC) positions at its scheduled national convention.
A statement by Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the Party, stated that the arrangement was contained in the APC’s published schedule of nationwide congresses, national convention, and related activities for 2026.
Morka further said the zoning formula for NWC positions across states within the geopolitical zones remains valid for the convention, thus advised aspirants seeking national offices in the party to adhere strictly to the zoning arrangement.
Accordingly, both Yilwatda and Basiru were returned unopposed for the offices of national chairman and secretary respectively.
The convention with the theme; “Unity in Progress: Consolidating The Renewed Hope Agenda,” was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, ministers, among other party chieftains and stakeholders.
The convention was organised by a planning committee led by Aminu Masari, former governor of Katsina, and Anyim Pius Anyim, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).
A statement by Mr. Mohammed Idris, minister of Information and National Orientation, stated that about 8,453 were cleared as delegates to participate in the activities of the convention.
