BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – An early morning fire outbreak on Saturday razed a six-room bungalow at Danialu Alapata Compound in the Gaa Akabi area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Reports indicated that the incident, which occurred at about 2:11 a.m, was contained by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service (KSFS) and their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading further around the vicinity.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said only two of the six rooms were severely affected in the inferno
Adekunle’s statement on the fire incident stated thus: “The incident involved a bungalow comprising about six rooms, out of which two rooms were affected by the fire. Through the swift efforts of the firefighters, the blaze was contained, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby properties.”
According to him, preliminary findings showed the fire was caused by a power surge, adding, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected rooms.”
Also speaking on the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, who urged residents to take precautionary measures, said: “Residents should ensure the installation of surge protectors, avoid overloading electrical systems, and conduct regular inspections of wiring by qualified professionals.”
Alabi, while advising residents to switch off electrical appliances when not in use and report fire incidents promptly, reiterated the Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property of residents of the State.
Meanwhile, available records showed that recently there have been several fire incidents across the state, including a March 12 fire at Owode Market in Offa that destroyed six shops and goods worth millions of Naira.
Similarly, a 10-room building was also razed at Aata Compound in Ilorin, on Tuesday, while another fire affected a shop at Akolapo Plaza on Wednesday, 25th March 2026.
