The source therefore dismissed as unnecessary but dangerous the anxiety and palpable fear surrounding the speculative report.

Similarly, Counsel to the Nigerian Shiites’ Leader, Femi Falana (SAN) confirmed that he is alive but claimed that his client is seriously ill.

For some days, the social media has been awash with postings claiming that the detained Shiites Spiritual leader a (IMN), Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzarky is dead

According to the top security personnel, the rumour was the handiwork of mischief-makers who would stop at nothing trying to cause confusion among El-Zakzarky’s followers and other Nigerians for their personal ulterior motives.

PRNigeria quoted the intelligence officer as saying: “As I am speaking to you now, Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife are alive and stable.

“They observe their regular prayers and are in stable condition. The peddlers of rumours claiming he is dead are mischievous undesirable elements engaging in the antics for ulterior motives.

“While it is out of place to say more than this, Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife are accorded respect and some privileges, including occasional communication.

“Therefore the message being circulated to the effect that there would violence as a result of his death is unfounded and misleading and should be disregarded,” the Security Chief enthused.

In his response to rumours of El-Zakzaky’s death, more than two years after he was detained by the Nigerian government, his counsel Femi Falana is quoted as saying; “Clinically he (El-Zakzaky) is not dead yet. But he is very very sick.”

Falana further said; “He has lost an eye, he is in the process of losing the other one. He has developed stroke in detention and bullets in the wife’s body have not been removed since 2015.”
