Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has said that the election of Hon. Alfred Aondover Emberga as the new Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly (BSHA), is a testament to the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues.
Governor Alia, who stated this while extending his warm congratulations to the member representing Makurdi North State Constituency, noted that his election was also a reflection of his commitment and ability to uphold democratic values.
Hon Alfred Aondover Emberga was elected as the new Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly (BSHA), on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at an emergency sitting of the House following the voluntary resignation of the former Speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
Governor Alia also commended the swift process that led to the emergence of a new leader of the legislative arm of government in the State and expressed confidence that under the leadership of Emberga, the State Assembly will continue to work tirelessly towards the formulation and enactment of laws and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people of the State.
A statement by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chiuef Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, stated that Governor Alia called on the legislative arm of government to continue to maintain a strong and cordial relationship with the executive and Judiciary arms.
Alia emphasised that it was only through collaboration and cooperation that the state can be able to achieve sustainable development and deliver dividends of democracy that will reach every citizen.
While he appreciating the outgone Speaker, Hon. Dajoh, for his contributions as the leader of the state legislature, Alia assured the newly elected Speaker and all members of the State Assembly, of his unwavering support and commitment to continue to work together for the overall good of the Benue.
