Emir of Bauchi Directs Community Leaders to Block Leakages in Closure of Borders

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has directed traditional rulers in the state to ensure full enforcement of the total lockdown of borders with the state with strict surveillance of illegal routes created at the grassroots by desperate people.

Dr Adamu, who gave the directive at a stakeholders meeting on COVID-19 chaired by the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, warned that traditional institution in Bauchi state will be decisive in dealing with violators of the borders lockdown order.

Adamu, who is the Chairman of the State Palliative Committee, also pledged the readiness of the traditional rulers to support the state government to implement all its policies and programmes geared towards curbing the spread of Coronavirus. 

All the Stakeholders, who spoke at the meeting while applauding Governor Bala Mohammed for not ordering for the total lockdown of the state, assured of their support in any decision taken against the pandemic. 

They opined that community transmission of the virus can be tackled through contact tracing, testing, observing social distancing, personal hygiene and the use of face masks.

They also suggested intensive awareness on the dangers of COVID-19 pandemic at the grassroots and commended the government for engaging them in decision making. 

Governor Mohammed, who chaired the Stakeholders Meeting, expressed gratitude to all the critical stakeholders for their outstanding contribution to the state government at this critical period of Coronavirus. 

He said; “We thank you for your commitment and leadership. We know that without you, we will not be able to take some of the milestones we have taken. We will continue to engage you in any decision we will take in curtailing this deadly disease. We really appreciate your support to us.

“We have resolved to enforce observing social distancing at worship centres, markets and other public places so that we can reduce infection with the virus. 

“Bauchi state will continue to work on its own peculiar way by making sure there is community and stakeholders engagement.”
