The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major-General Muhammadu Sani Sami is dead.
The former military governor of Bauchi State died on Saturday night in a London hospital at the age of 81 years after a brief illness.
This was announced on Sunday, August 17, 2025 by Mr. Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who extended the state government condolences to the family of the late Emir, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire people of Kebbi State.
He prayed that God Almighty Allah should forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
The Kebbi State Government described the late emir as a revered leader who made notable contributions to the peace and development in Zuru Emirate and the state at large.
The late Emir Sani Sami, who was known as Gomo was born on October 24, 1943, enlisted into the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962, and received his training at the Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, United Kingdom and was commissioned on July 25, 1963.
General Sami (retd) had a distinguished military career as he served in various sensitive positions, including Commander of the Brigade of Guards under Late General Murtala Muhammed’s administration.
He served as the military Governor of Bauchi State from December 1983 to August 1985 and after retiring from the army, he returned to his hometown and became the Emir of Zuru, earning a reputation for firmness, simplicity, and dedication to cultural values.
The late emir is survived by four wives and seven children.
A statement by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, said that the burial arrangements of the late emir will be communicated in due course.
