Describes AYCF leader as irresponsible, insensitive
BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – The alleged war threat statement by leader of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Comrade Shettima Yerima, over the ongoing nationwide #EndSARS and #EndSWAT protests has continued to receive serious reprimand from well-meaning individuals and groups.
The latest bashing is coming from a group of patriots, under the aegis of Nation Builders and Reformers Organisation (NBRO), which berated the AYCF leader for being subversive and unreasonable in his inflammatory comments.
The Coordinating Convener of NBRO, Magnus Oku, described Yerima’s threatening statement as prlvocative; irresponsible; misleading; and insensitivity to the wailings of aggrieved Nigerians across the country seeking an end to police brutality and a more pragmatic approach to the security of lives and property.
In a statement signed by Oku and made available to the media in Abuja, NBRO said Yerima’s drum beats of war is totally uncalled for given that many patriotic Northerners, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and fiery Senator Shehu Sani, among others, have identified with the #EndSARS struggle because of the lofty ideas of the campaigners.
He said Yerima’s perception of the protests as a political tool aimed at removing President Muhammadu Buhari from office is not only myopic but stinks of unmatchable greed and insensitivity to the plight and sufferings of Nigerians.
Insisting that the current movement cannot be misconstrue as region based or a southerners’ affair, the statement titled: “Shut up Shettima! What nonsense leadership are you referring to?”, explained that the youths, North and south of Nigeria, are fully involved and would not be distracted or swayed by divisive and incendiary comments from selfish quarters.
“You are more particular about your stinking greed for power in Nigeria than the lives that has been wasted, the dignity we have lost as a nation, pain hunger and stagnation experienced under president Buhari?
“You are insensitive and and unreasonable to think that your leadership should surpass the outcry for Justice. Who cares about your war treat? If the South rises fully, you cant them in one hour fight. So put your war treat and division talks in the dustbin that where stinking things belong”, Oku said.
The Leader of Nation Builders further told Yerima; “WHAT YOU CANT SEE IS BIGGER THAN YOU and you will be stupid to think you are still a winner in this at this point. The fight is not for south only but for Nigeria. Aisha and the rest of the reasonable Northerners in the struggle are not Southerners.
“We are fighting a fight for all times and it can’t be stopped by any mortal. God is in this fight and we will win on all sides.
Oku, who urged the AYCF leader to join the moving train set to deliver on a new Nigeria, Oku said; “My advise to you instead of being on the loosing side tomorrow is that you drop that stinky pride and greed for power and join a fight that will put your name in good books.”
“A fight that will give your next generation a better future. Don’t talk against what you can’t see because THIS IS BIGGER THAN YOU”, the statement said.
NBRO was reacting to Yerima’s statement at a media briefing In Minna, Niger State capital, where he claimed that the north would not stand back and watch southerners remove President Buhari from office through the #EndSARS protests.
He alleged that southerners are trying to cheat the north out of power again, as was the case following the death of President Umar Musa Yar’ Adua on May 10, 2010.
Yerima had issued the threat the country will be heading for war if #EndSARS protesters should demand the removal of President Buhari or an end to present day Nigeria.
