#EndSARS Looting: Former Minister, Alhassan Charges Parents On Children Upbringing

BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan has blamed poor parenting for most of the societal ills plaguing Nigeria today.
She therefore urged parents and guardians to take seriously the responsibilities of providing good parental and proper upbringing for their children for the sake of a better tomorrow.
Alhassan said contrary to the so-called hunger motivation, recent incidents of massive looting of palliatives and property in government and private warehouses and residence across the country strongly indicate high level erosion of values among Nigerians, especially the youth populace.
“If this kind of behaviour is not checked, the future of our society is bleak and the hope of ushering in a generation of good leaders of tomorrow will be dashed”, Aisha warned.
The former lawmaker, who spoke with journalists in Jalingo, said parents must not only instill discipline in their children, but also train them to be useful members of their communities and the country
“As parents, we should not be too busy to admonish our children. Those who participated in recent incidents of looting were those whose parents neglected their roles of parenting”, she lamented.
Alhassan wondered what #EndSARS protests had to do with the looting of palliatives, goods in private stores as well as destruction of public and individuals’ property.
She however urged governments at all levels to forgive the youths as they returned the looted items while parents should wake up to their neglected duty of good parenting of their wards.
Popularly known as “Mama Taraba”, Senator Jumai Aisha Alhassan was a former Senator representing Taraba Northern Senatorial District and also a two times gubernatorial candidate on the platforms of All Progressives Congress (APC) and United Democratic Party (UDP) in Taraba state.
