Expose Boko Haram Sponsors, Financiers Now – Bauchi CAN Chairman Dares FG
The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bauchi State Chapter, Rev Dr Abraham Damina Dimeus, has challenged the Federal Government to come clean by publishing without further delay the names of alleged sponsors and financers of the dreaded Boko Haram militants and other bandits currently terrorising Nigerians.
Rev Dimeus also urged journalists in the country to actively participate in demanding that government does the right thing by naming and shaming those conniving with the criminal elements to hold the country hostage.
Speaking during the Special Church service at Bishara Baptist Church, Bauchi to make the 2021 Bauchi State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week on Sunday, the CAN Chairman said journalists can set and achieve this agenda through true, accurate, fair, unbiased, and factual news reports, features, commentaries, opinions and editorials on this disturbing issue.
He maintained that such agenda-setting would go a long way in aiding the insurgency war, adding that; “Since it is in the public domain that the sponsors and financers are known, a development government has not denied, then, the names should be made official and public so that Nigerians will know the faces of those who have endangered our lives over the years”.
Reading from the Book of Jeremiah 5:1-2 to buttress his message, Rev Dimeus said; “Many innocent lives and valuable properties have been lost in the process. We need to know those behind all this callousness and wanton destruction of lives and properties.
“There must be concerted efforts to end banditry, kidnapping, killing, and other forms of criminality that have become the order of the day. We are tired of all these atrocities. We need peace, we need tranquility, we need to sleep with all our eyes closed”.
The CAN Chairman also admonished journalists to be, “fearless, courageous, objective, fair and more importantly, professional and ethical in the line of your duties. Tell it the way it is, don’t relent, don’t mince words because the society is eagerly waiting to hear it from you”.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu said the focus of the Press Week is to promote unity, oneness, and togetherness among working journalists and people of the state.
The NUJ Chairman, who was represented by Ishola Michael, said the country presently needs divine intervention to overcome the myriad of security challenges facing it, noting that the situation is so bad and only God can make things better.
Comrade Sa’idu also said the theme of this year’s Press Week, ‘Insecurity, Economy issues in Nigeria: Role of the Media’ aims to highlight the media’s key role in getting the country out of the logjam it currently finds itself.
