BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Following Thursday, April 30, 2026 judgment of the Supreme Court which has further deepened the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Saturday formally led his followers and supporters out of party.
Governor Mohammed, who announced this after an expanded stakeholders meeting at the Government House, Bauchi, declared that the entire structure has been collapsed into the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
Mohammed cited the prolonged instability and unsuccessful efforts to restore unity within the PDP structure especially at the National level.
The Governor said the decision followed extensive consultations and reflected a responsible step to provide Bauchi citizens with a viable political alternative amid an unusual and challenging situation.
He emphasized that joining the APM at the state level aims to secure electoral victory while safeguarding the interests of his supporters and maintaining continuity in governance.
Mohammed further said that members of the State Executive Council (SEC) have resigned, with plans underway for online membership registration across wards and local governments, stressing that the move was strategic rather than retreat.
While receiving Governor into the Party, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, highlighted the party’s commitment to integrity, sacrifice, and service as core principles guiding its operations nationwide.
Dantalle noted that the party demonstrated grassroots strength in previous elections, winning councillorship seats, and described it as an egalitarian platform that respects members while fostering inclusive participation in governance.
The APM national chairman assured that the party has no hidden godfather, stressing that it is guided strictly by its constitution and the will of the people.
Dantalle commended Governor Mohammed’s leadership style, particularly his inclusive approach to governance and democratic values.
The announcement was followed by chants of “APM, Nigeria First,” as supporters expressed approval of the defection.
