Hosts end match with last-gasp 2-2 draw in Warsaw
The Super Eagles were just seconds away from a massive international friendly victory before Przemysław Wiśniewski unleashed a dramatic, 95th-minute thunderbolt for the White Eagles to even scores on night.
After Terem Moffi’s early strike and Paul Onuachu’s cool penalty had given Nigeria a 2-1 lead, Przemysław’s stunning, long-range 95th minute equalizer broke Nigerian hearts, ending an explosive clash in a 2-2 draw at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw.
It was barely the last kick of the game that spoiled the fun for Eric Chelle’s men who opened scoring in the 23rd minute, thanks to a right-footed assist by Terem Moffi. However, just before the half-time whistle, the White-Reds levelled things courtesy of Kacper Potulski.
The first half ended square with Nigeria ringing changes just at the start of the second half. Philip Otele was brought in for Sevilla’s Akor Adams while Semi Ajayi replaced Emmanuel Fernandez in the 46th minute. Bruno Onyemaechi came in for Zaidu Sanusi just as Paul Onuachu replaced the scorer, Moffi. In the defence, Calvin Bassey replaced Igoh Ogbu.

These substitutions and tactical shift sparked a furious surge as the three-time African champions carved open the hosts’ defense. With relentless pressure, the Super Eagles earned a penalty and Paul Onuachu stepped up, calmly burying a blistering strike into the back of the net to put Nigeria ahead 2-1.
The Super Eagles stood mere seconds from a historic victory over their European opponents until the heartbreak struck five minutes into stoppage time, Wiśniewski unleashed a dramatic equalizer that forced the teams to share the spoils and shattered the visitors’ celebration party.
This tense showdown revived memories of March 2018, where a determined Nigerian squad edged the Poles 1-0 in a gritty pre-World Cup friendly. Back then, that decisive moment belonged to former Chelsea winger Victor Moses. After being brought down in the box by a Polish defender, Moses confidently stepped up in the 62nd minute and drilled the penalty home.
Without a ticket to this year’s World Cup, the Super Eagles are using the friendly matches to test tactics and new players ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will now shift their attention to another friendly game against World Cup-bound Portugal on Wednesday, June 10., 2026.
