The coming days hold the promise of excitement and suspense for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the return to the country of its National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu after months of extended medical treatment in London, the United Kingdom (UK)
Clearly on the plate for Jagaban, who landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Friday night is the 2023 general elections and the politics of who emerges as APC’s flagbearer in the presidential race.
Reports said on hand to receive Asiwaju Tinubu at the airport was Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who about 24 hours earlier had, in conjunction with some party chieftains, royal fathers, and businessmen, formally flagged-off a South West Agenda for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu (SWAGA) 23 to pursue his presidential ambition.
Amidst fanfare, SWAGA 2023 campaign group had packaged the launch meant to test the political waters for Jagaban’s veiled interest in the nation’s number seat which is said to have received endorsement from some House of Representatives members from the north led by Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, who visited the APC leader in London last week
Close associates and reports had confirmed that during his overseas medical treatment, the former Lagos State governor had knee surgery.
However, amid speculations of undergoing further rigorous post-surgery physiotherapy on the knee, a statement by the Tinubu media office said contrary to unfounded rumours, the APC leader underwent no other surgical procedures and contemplates none in the future.
According to the statement; “His recuperation has been without complication and ahead of the schedule by the attending surgeon. He has returned fully healed from the knee surgery and fully committed to doing his modest part of advancing the cause of progressive democratic good governance throughout our beloved nation.
“Asiwaju, first and foremost, would like to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for taking the time to visit him in London to express his wishes for a speedy recovery from the knee operation.
“He thanks House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, governors, party leaders, members of Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and indeed many others who called on him in London to wish him well.
“He is also not forgetting others who would have loved to visit him but couldn’t make it and his numerous friends, associates, supporters and well-wishers who have been with him in prayers and supplications to Allah.
“Asiwaju Tinubu thanks you all.”
