The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose insists the recent defection of former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye to All Progressives Congress (APC) will not affect the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s fortune in the forthcoming July 14, 2018 gubernatorial polls in the State.

In his usual self-confidence, Fayose said Adeyeye’s move to the opposition APC in the State has simply confirmed fears that he was never a loyal and committed PDP member.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Mr Lere Olayinka in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, Governor Fayose said; “I am not bothered by the action taken by the former aspirant in the just-concluded PDP governorship primary election in the state.

“His move to APC will not in any way affect us. This is because majority of those he thought were behind him did not defect with him.”

According to the governor, “In fact, one of his two party agents for the last primary is still with us in PDP and you know what that means.

“If somebody is your party agent and could not go with you to another party it tells a lot and even as he is moving from PDP, many others from APC are coming to us, so we have nothing to lose with his defection.”

The Governor, who maintained that there is no grudge against Adeyeye, given his right to switch allegiance from one political party to another, said PDP’s chances at the elections were as bright as ever even as he wished the former PDP governorship aspirant well in his new party.

The Governor further mocked Adeyeye’s move, saying; “While he was the PDP national spokesman, he had spoken terrible things against the APC and he has now gone to join the same party.”

Meanwhile, Adeyeye, who lost the governorship ticket to Deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, at the PDP’s primaries, has thrown his weight behind the APC candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, in what he described as a bid to liberate Ekiti State from Fayose’s maladministration.

Briefing the media at his Ado Ekiti residence, the former PDP spokesperson said the decision was taken because he could no longer operate on the same pedestal with Governor Fayose.

Accusing Fayose of being too dictatorial and overbearing in his handling of PDP’s internal affairs in the state, Adeyeye said all his teeming supporters across the state have been directed to join the APC.

The former spokesman of the Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, also said defecting to APC was his Democracy Day gift to the nation, adding that he preferred to work with the APC and its gubernatorial candidate, Dr Fayemi, who he described as ‘better equipped’ for the job.
