BY OLAKUNLE AWONIYI, ABUJA – The Executive chairman of Federal Character Commission (FCC), Dr Muheeba Dankaka on Monday, said that as the agency of the Federal Government mandated to sustain national unity and cohesion, it shall remain committed and continue to pursue its mandate with all the vigor and constitutional provisions as provided in the Act that establish it.
The FCC Chairman also said her one year in office is fulfilling owing to the fact that a formidable foundation has been laid for sustainable progress.

She therefore reassured the commissioners and board members of the Commission of her commitment to better and lift the agency to higher heights.
The Chairman said that now that the Commission has reconstituted the operational committees to make it robust and potent, adding that with the relaxed COVID-19 protocols, it is envisaged that there would be more engaging activities with the Ministries, Departments and Agencies the Commission is supervising.
Dankaka, who spoke while marking her one year in office, noted that the period may be well enough to access the remarkable progress in achieving the mandate given to it by President Muhammadu Buhari.
She said; “It may also be well enough to take a look at how well the challenges may have hampered the steady progress that is expected”.
Dankaka explained that the Federal character commission is a pivotal institution of great magnitude that is clearly mandated to entrust and strengthen the nation’s unity.
In the words of Dankaka; “As we all know, it is designed to ensure that our people do not feel alienated from the national project thereby having a sense of belonging.
“The commission will bring out deliberate policies to make its own contribution to national discourse that promotes peace and unity in the country”.
Dankaka however said that the last one year in spite of the achievements recorded also witnessed some challenges as it was also difficult trying to get proper bearings due to misgivings and understandings.
The FCC Chairman said she is happy that the members of the Commission are putting such challenges and hiccups behind them and forging ahead, saying; “I want to use this opportunity to thank each and every one for the support and understanding during this one year”.
