- It’s APC in Gwagwalada
The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr John Gabaya has been declared winner of the Chairmanship election in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) held on Saturday, February 12, 2022.
Announcing results for the Chairmanship poll, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s Returning Officer, Professor Amuche Madu said Mr Gabaya, the incumbent chairman, polled 13,045 votes to retain the position for another three years.
Trailing Gabaya as his closest rival is Mr Haruna Shekwolo of All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 7,697 votes.
Prof Madu declared that Gabaya was returned elected having met the requirements of the Constitution and the electoral law.
Also, the PDP swept to victory in Kuje Area Council with the incumbent, Suleman Sabo, defeating five other candidates in each of the Council’s 10 wards to win the chairmanship seat for a second term.
He garnered a total of 13,301 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sarki Hamidu of APC) in second place with 7,694 votes.
In Gwagwalada Area Council, the Chairmanship position was won by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Jibrin Abubakar, who defeated Mohammed Kasim of the PDP in a hard-fought electoral contest.
The Returning Officer, Professor Illiyasu Umar, who declared the results of the poll, said Jibrin amassed a total of 11,125 votes to beat Kasim whose total haul came to 9,597 votes.
