BY EDMOND ODOK – The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche has tasked members of the Cross River State Journalists Forum (CROSSJOF), Abuja to always hold political office holders and seekers in the state accountable.
Comrade Ogbeche said it is only on the basis of ensuring leaders are accountable and transparent in governance would Cross River move forward in terms of socio-economic growth and development.
The Council Chairman gave the charge when the newly elected Executive Committee of the Forum visited in his office, even as he assured them of his support in delivering on the Forum’s mandate.
He also urged them to embrace teamwork which is the secret of his administration’s success as they work on growing the Forum into a formidable force.
Comrade Ogbeche, who is a member of the Forum, also stressed the need for the new Executive to be unrelenting in enhancing professional practice among the Forum members.
In welcoming the CROSSJOF Executives, the NUJ Council, Secretary, Ochiaka Agwu congratulated them on their electoral victory.
Comrade Agwu also applauded the Forum for the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election which he monitored.
Earlier in speech, the Chairman of CROSSJOF, Comrade Ignatius Ushie appreciated the NUJ Chairman for his leadership role and support for journalists plying their trade in the nation’s Capital City.
He said their mission to the Council was to formally introduce the new Executive members while also soliciting support and guidance from the NUJ leadership to successful deliver on the task at hand.
Commending the leadership style of the Council Chairman and his team, Ushie noted that it is result oriented and promised to walk in his footsteps.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the Exco, Secretary of CROSSJOF, Mrs Francisca Ogar appreciated the Chairman for the audience and his open door policy.
She assured him the Executives would live up to expectations, pledging that training opportunities for journalists extended to the Forum members would not be abused.
Other members of the new Executive Committee present were: Lulu Bankong – Vice Chairman; Idara Ukpanyang – Treasurer; Wofai Ibor – Financial Secretary; and Nten Ekpang – Public Relations Officer.
