FG Releases N35bn For Salary Arrears Of 267 MDAs
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Ahmed Idris, has announced the release of N35 billion by the Federal Government to settle the backlog of promotion arrears owed to Federal Civil servants across the country to cover from year 2011 to 2016.
Idris also said over N30 billion is being spent on verified Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The AGF, who announced this after receiving a brief from the chairman of the Committee on the Verification of civil servants that are entitled to promotion arrears, Mr. Mohammed Kudu Usman, who is also a director, in-charge of the Inspectorate department in the Office of the Accountant-General of Federation, said he is satisfied with success recorded from the exercise.
Idris said that the payment would helped the workers meet some of their most pressing needs, adding that the Federal Government was committed to fulfilling its promises and commitments to the workers.
According to him; “The payments which were being made in batches have seen staff from over 261 MDAs so far being fully paid the sum of N22,596,120,830.44.
“The breakdown of the payments revealed that the first six batches were for 231 MDAs enrolled under the IPPIS, while there was another batch comprised 36 Non IPPIS MDAs.”
The AGF also said that another set of 68 MDAs, comprising a batch of 54 IPPIS MDAs and another batch of 12 Non-IPPIS MDAs respectively have also been verified and their monies have been processed for payment, adding that a total of N8,249,083,829.50 has been released for the settlement of the verified MDAs.
A statement by the Director, Information in the office of the AGF, Mrs Kene Offie quoted Idris as saying that some MDAs that are yet to submit their claims are in the process of submitting to the committee on Promotion Arrears verification for scrutiny.
The AGF urged staff with complaints to refer to their various MDAs, and assured that all MDAs with genuine claims will be fully paid.
