- Says ruling APC remains total failure on security
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – In a damning indictment of the current administration, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) claims the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally admitted its helplessness in the face of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity
According to the opposition party, recent remarks by the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari have only confirmed what many Nigerians already know that the Federal Government cannot offer credible solutions to the security crisis rocking the country.
The Director, Media and Publicity of the ADC- Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC), Kola Ologbondiyan, amplified the accusation while reacting to Yari’s comment on insecurity during a visit to Kebbi State, on Monday, where he admitted that even a former military general could not easily stop the country’s surging violence.
Turning the ruling party’s own words against it, the ADC said Senator Yari’s comments are clearly indicative that APC has thrown in the towel on Nigeria’s security security challenges.
Senator Yari, the Director-General of APC-PCC, had while addressing to party stakeholders during a political visit to Birnin Kebbi, argued that citizens should temper expectations of President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that if a former military head of state like Muhammadu Buhari could not wipe out insecurity, quick fixes are unrealistic.
Clearly capitalizing on the comments as an admission of failure and defeat, Ologbondiyan, claimed Yari’s logic strips away any lingering pretext that the administration has a grip on banditry, kidnappings, and terror.
The ADC campaign, which described the comment as a “damning indictment of the APC government and a startling admission from a senior figure entrusted with selling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid to Nigerians”, added: “This is a direct confession of helplessness from the core of the ruling party.”
Further framing the remark as proof that the government has run out of ideas while communities bleed, Ologbondiyan said Yari’s statement raises fundamental questions about the APC’s capacity to address insecurity and the justification for seeking another presidential mandate.
Succinctly put, the ADC-PCC said: “For a party that has been in power for nearly 12 years, this is a shocking admission of failure. Rather than inspire confidence in Nigerians, the statement from the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council reinforces the growing perception that the ruling party has run out of ideas and has no credible answers to the nation’s security challenges.
“After years of promises, Nigerians continue to grapple with banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and wanton killings. Communities remain vulnerable, families live in fear, and citizens are increasingly worried about the safety of their lives and livelihoods.
“Now, the APC’s own campaign chief appears to be asking Nigerians to accept that if a former military Head of State could not defeat insecurity, there is little President Tinubu can do. This is not the language of a party offering hope; it is an expression of helplessness from a party seeking another mandate.”
Also questioning the rationale behind the APC demand for another four years, Ologbondiyan said Nigerians cannot afford to reward a government that has failed to provide adequate security and economic relief with another tenure.
“How can the APC ask Nigerians to renew its mandate when its own campaign leadership is raising doubts about the capacity of its presidential candidate to tackle insecurity? Why should Nigerians entrust their future to a party whose leading campaign figures appear unable to defend its record or inspire confidence in its capacity to deliver?
“Nigeria needs leadership that accepts responsibility, develops practical solutions and demonstrates the political will to protect citizens. It does not need a government that offers excuses for persistent insecurity or a ruling party whose campaign leadership appears to have lost faith in its own candidate’s ability to deliver”, he said.
Ologbondiyan said unlike the APC, the ADC offers Nigerians a credible alternative Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as an experienced leader with a practical vision for national security, economic recovery and national cohesion.
For the ADC, he said defeating insecurity requires more than political rhetoric, insisting that it demands competent leadership, effective coordination among security agencies, adequate equipment, improved intelligence gathering and sustained investment in the welfare and capacity of security personnel.
Challenging Nigerians to treat Yari’s reported remarks as a moment for sober reflection on the APC’s record and the consequences of another four years under the ruling party, the ADC said: “Yari’s statement has reinforced the very question Nigerians must ask before the next presidential election: if the APC cannot confidently explain how its candidate will secure the country, why should Nigerians entrust it with another four years?”
“The choice before Nigerians is clear: continue with a party whose record on insecurity has attracted widespread criticism, or support a credible alternative committed to rescuing the country, restoring public confidence and making the protection of lives and property a national priority.”
