Another fire incident has occurred in Kano State with no fewer than 50 shops reportedly destroyed at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in Dakata area of the State.
It was gathered that dawn fire outbreak is coming barely one week after a major fire incident affected over 1,000 traders at the popular Singer Market in Kano
Chairman of the Market’s Fire Committee, Dauda Haruna Chula, who confirmed the incident, said the inferno started around 5:40am on Friday, February 20, 2026.
According to him, the affected shops were mainly small-scale businesses engaged in oil production, as well as recycling of plastics and nylon materials.
A distressed Dauda lamented that the fire was still raging as at the time emergency services arrived, with most traders expressing concern over the delayed in the response time.
Speaking with some reporters, the Committee Chairman said: “From the preliminary (investigation) what we have seen, about 50 shops are already down and the fire is still ongoing. We are still expecting the Kano State Fire Service personnel.”
He said desperate efforts were made to contact the fire service and other relevant agencies, adding that they also confirmed being aware of the incident.
“We did as much as we could to call them and inform them of the situation on the ground. I can hear the sound of their car right now,” he added.
Though the extent of damage and possible casualties have not been ascertained yet as of press time, the incident marks another devastating blow to Kano’s commercial sector following the recent Singa Market tragedy that destroyed goods worth billions
More to come soon…
