Fire has razed part of a two-storey building at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters located on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba area of the state.
According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident occurred in the wee hours of today, (Friday, August 30, 2024) at about 2.20 am.
Reports indicated that the fire originated from an electrical surge and razed the children’s room, which is one of the two-bedrooms in Flat 5, of Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building of 16 two-bedroom flats.
Confirming the unfortunate incident the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, said the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, resulting in loss of properties worth millions of Naira.
Oke-Osanyitolu said; “The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly.
“Fortunately there was no loss of life and injuries sustained in the incident”, noting that; “victims and other occupants were enlightened on the proper use of electric appliances”.
Reports from the scene said as of 5.30 am, men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LASFRES) and some Nigerian Police personnel, were really battling hard to bring the situation under control.
