Fire Guts Northwest Varsity Campus Building In Kano

The Ninth floor of the Northwest University City Campus building in Kano, housing several academic offices, was on Thursday gutted by fire.

The affected building

Reports said the fire, which started in the afternoon, was triggered by an electrical spark within the building where the Computer Science department of the University is located

According to the reports, fire fighters from the Kano State Fire Service (KSFS) and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) responded swiftly, preventing the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.

Competent sources disclosed that the affected offices include those of the Head of Department (HOD) as well as Lecturers in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department of the University.

Before going to press, there was no official statement from the University’s authorities even as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, could not be easily reached for comments.
