First Private University In Kaduna State Takes Off In May

BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – Greenfield University, Kasarami, a private University located along Kaduna-Abuja road in Kaduna state, is due to commence academic activities next month, May.

Situated in a virgin land, it’s location reminds one of the olden system where schools were located outside town to give the students every opportunity to concentrate and remain focused in their academic activities.

This according to the founder and Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Engr. Simon Nwakacha is a calculated attempt for the students to have their full time to be able to excel and compete academically based on international standards.

The first private University for the moment will commence academic programme in the state with two faculties namely; faculty of Science and Technology, and faculty of Social Management Studies. The faculty of Science and Technology has the department of Physic, Life Science, Chemical Sciences, and Computation and Mathematical Sciences while the faculty of Social Management Sciences has the departments of Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Security Studies and Political Sciences.

Nwakacha attributed the establishment of the University to immense patriotism and love for the nation hence the decision to site the institution in the Northern part of the country, particularly in Kaduna, the capital of the northern region.

A visit to the University shows that the host community has started benefiting from the citing of the institution in the area as it has benefited in the provision of potable water, employment opportunities to its teeming youth in the building of the institution as well as ensuring the security of the entire area through the provision of a Police post, Army post and the institution’s internal security for a secured environment.

The institution has all it takes to give qualitative education to its students in view of all that is on ground to ensure conducive learning environment. The Pro-Chancellor explained that the University would leave no stone unturned towards giving students the best equipment to showcase their full potentials in realising their dreams of becoming leaders of the country in all spheres of life.

He added; “We are not leaving anything unturned towards maintaining high discipline among students and the University system as a whole so that products of the institution could easily be identified wherever they find themselves.

“At imperial schools which we started 23 years ago, discipline has been our watchword and it has greatly helped us to where we are today even at the Secondary school level.

“In order to achieve our dream of having a University of international repute, the institution can boast of international standard laboratories, hostels, with 1,000 capacity cafeteria and other state of the act facilities that has been given a clean bill of approval by the National University Commission (NUC).”

Nwakacha also said that the university, apart from using cutting edge technology to impact on its students, would also focus on entrepreneurial skills such as building the capacity of  students to enable them have practical skills to address contemporary situations for nation building and for them to be self reliance and be employers of labour in the future.

The Federal Government of Nigeria approved the establishment of Greenfield University, Kaduna in January 2019 and the school is ready to start its academic activities with 315 students with a hostel capacity of 120 students with each room housing four students.
