Floods Submerge Over 300 Houses In Nasarawa State As Two Market Women Got Drowned

BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – It was a day of sorrow and weeping as a result of the heavy downpour that led to a major flood which consumed two market women that got drowned at the Tudun Amba bridge in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
This is just as about 300 houses along the path were completely submerged following the heavy downpour that lasted for over four hours.

The bridge where the two victims identified as Igbo women traders got drowned on Thursday morning, is the main link between Doma and Lafia towns.

While one of the women was rescued, efforts to locate and rescue the second person did not yield any result as passerby watched helplessly as the flood washed her away.
Commuters and traders were stranded as the flood continues to vibrate, blocking all channels linking Doma and Lafia Local Government Areas.
Our correspondents who visited the scene of the unfortunate incident saw helpless traders and residents crying for help as their properties were being washed away.
Governor Abdullahi Sule who visited the scene of the incident condoled the bereaved family and directed the State Urban Development Board (NUDB), to immediately find measures to address the situation.
Governor Sule equally advised residents to avoid the dumping of refuse in water ways to stop blockage of water channels.
