- Atiku donates N50million to victims
BY SALISU IBRAHIM, KANO – A heavy downpour that lasted several hours in Kano on Monday has wreaked havoc in the ancient city causing unprecedented flooding at Kantin Kwari Market.
The flood inflicted huge losses on shop owners, who had their shops and items swept away following persistent rains that lasted for about five hours.
Some of the victims whose shops were submerged in the flood attributed the menace to the blockage of waterways in the market which they attributed to the construction of new building structures that were constructed by the state government in the market.

While the rain was pouring down heavily, some young traders came out calling on capable people in the market to come out and find ways for the rainwater to ease out.
One of the victims said in a recorded video trending on social media that they had no choice but to go out to protect their properties.
According to him; “We can’t remain indoors sleeping while rainwater is threatening our businesses. We have never witnessed such rainfall and the flood that accompanied it”.
However, reprieve came their way, as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who happened to be in Kano to receive Malam Ibrahim Shekarau into the PDP fold, heard of the flood and the menace it caused.
Atiku promptly donated N50 million to the Kantin Kwari Market traders to cushion the effect of their loss as a result of the flood that affected their business environment.
Kano has been experiencing heavy downpours in the last five days, leading to flooding in most parts of the metropolis.
