Forensics Symposium Holds In Abuja on Thursday

BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – In a bid to deploy effective forensics investigations in Nigeria’s criminal system, stakeholders in the security and legal sectors, among others, are billed to attend a one-day symposium on how to achieve efficiency through forensics techniques.

The symposium, which is organised by Eagloid Limited, a forensic consulting and training firm, in partnership with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI), is aimed at ensuring “the integrity and credibility of forensic evidences recovered by forensic experts and crime scene investigators at crime scenes are admissible in the court room. This enhances the effectiveness of the judicial process hence exonerating the innocent while convictions are achieved for the guilty.”

According to a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Eagloid, Mr Isaac Israel, the symposium is expected to bring together experts and professionals in every possible field of significance to forensics with the aim of “fostering the growth and development of forensic science and its unique techniques in Nigeria’s judicial system

“The symposium aims to proffer solutions as to how Nigeria can develop its own forensic capabilities that would strengthen its criminal justice system through adopting an efficient crime scene investigation framework by relevant law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.

“Participants of this forensics symposium would not be left in doubt as to the importance of Nigeria developing its own forensic capabilities to effectively tackle the high prevalence of crime and security challenges in the country given the viability of forensics science as a credible source of intelligence.

“Also, participants would be able to see the need for regulating and accreditation bodies or agencies that would ensure standards, methods and professionalism are upheld in forensic practices in Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Forensics Symposium Abuja 2018 is for lawyers, forensic professionals, security and law enforcement agents, emergency as first responders, intelligence officers, forensic enthusiasts, academic professionals, researchers and students.

“This highly expectant event would take place within the International Trade Fair vicinity of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce (ACCI), Umaru Yar’Adua Expressway, beside Shoprite on Thursday June 28, 2018 by 10:00am prompt,” the statement said.
