Former Rep, Aziegbemie Emerges Edo PDP Chair

BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Ahead of the September 2020 governorship election in Edo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected a former member of the House of Representatives, Tony Aziegbemi, as its new Chairman in the South South State.

Aziegbemi’s emergence took place during the state congress held between Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15 at the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Benin, the State capital.

The new chairman polled 817 votes to beat his closest rival, Felix Imoisil, who got 488 votes‎.

Also elected at the congress is the new state Secretary, Hillary Osu, who amassed 729 votes as against the 275 votes polled by his opponent, Omololu Ojehomon.

The current Edo State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chris Nehikhare, was re-elected with 631 votes with his oponent, Osarenren Avarenren Goodluck polling only 126 votes.

Addressing reporters shortly after being declared winner at the congress, Nehikhare, expressed confidence that the peaceful elections has marked a new dawn for the main opposition party in the South South PDP.

According to him, “We are going to do things better, faster, sharper, more people-oriented and focused” in order to reposition the party for the challenges ahead.

“The new Edo State Chairman of PDP’s style may be different from that of the outgoing Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih but we have to complement one another”, the party spokesman said
