In another bold move aimed at fully recovering from the just-ended six months emergency rule in Rivers State, stakeholders at the weekend converged in Port Harcourt, the state capital, to further douse political tension and chat a peaceful way forward for the oil-rich state.

Leading the charge to address issues around current political uncertainties in the State were immediate past governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who held a closed door meeting with members of the Rivers State Elders Council in Port Harcourt.

Coming on the heels of recent political developments within and outside the state, the meeting also had in attendance Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA), Martins Amaewhule, and Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.

Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, who shared pictures from the gathering via his official X handle on Sunday, described it as a sign of unity among stakeholders.

According to Olayinka, “FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other leaders in a meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday.”

Though details of the meeting have not been formally made public, insiders hinted that the involvement and participation of key political figures amplifies serious work at fostering cohesion and stability within the Rivers political structure.

Interestingly, the Minister’s Spokesperson gave confirmation to this emerging positive feelings and energy when he further wrote thus: “The political family is fully united.”
