GCUOBA Holds 2019 National Dinner in Abuja
Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA) will on Saturday, October 19, 2019, hold its 8th Annual National Dinner at the Executive Hall, International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.
National Publicity Secretary of the Association and Secretary of the 2019 National Dinner Organising Committee, Mr Obed Awowede, says the Dinner will be chaired by former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani.
Awowede said in a statement that other guests expected at the event include the Minister for Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammed Musa Bello and the Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as Chief Host.
The statement listed Architect Charles Majoroh (FNIA), who is the President-General Worldwide of GCUOBA, as host of the event. Majoroh is also a past president of the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIAs) and Africa Union of Architects (AUAs).
According to the statement, “The Keynote address will be delivered by Ambassador (Prof) Joy Ogwu, Nigeria’s former Foreign Minister. Ogwu was also a Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Director General of Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA). She will speak on Exams Malpractice: Curtailing the epidemic in the National Interest.”
Prof Ogwu is a Past Director General of Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The National Dinner is a forum for old boys of Government College Ughelli, stakeholders in education at Federal and State levels as well as public-spirited individuals and organisations to appraise the progress that the old boys and their friends have made in the effort to restore the old glory of GCU and chart the course for its further development in the immediate future.
“It is also an occasion where we discuss contemporary issues in the management of public schools and social values”, Awowede said.
Government College Ughelli was founded in 1945 and has produced distinguished alumni that include Deacon Gamaliel Onosode, General David Ejoor, Mr B. Agodo, Mr Gray Longe, Ambassador B.A Clark, Prof J.P Clark, Prof Olu Akinyanju (founder of the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria), and Chief G.T.S. Adokpaye.
others are Ambassador Edward Martins, Mr. Sam Amuka (Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers) Engr. Guy Otobo, Dr. A. A. Obiora, Dr. Titus Okereke, Engr.
