Nigeria’s Super Eagles captured a record fourth title by defeating their Jamaican counterparts, Reggae Boyz 3-0 to lift the 2026 Unity Cup trophy
To get the job done in London on Saturday night, the Coach Eric Chelle new-look bunch delivered a clinical performance to secure the trophy and further cement their place as the tournament’s most successful team.
Despite putting their best players forward, Jamaica fail to trouble the Eagles who scored in the third, 59th and 90th minute to comfortably retain Unity Cup. With all eyes on Budapest and the Champions League final, many may have forgotten that there is the Unity Cup to be won at The Valley in south London on Saturday.
Alhassan Yusuf netted a brace for Eric Chelle’s side, who are still coming to terms with the fact that they will not be playing at this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, while Terem Moffi, the Porto striker, also nodded home from Femi Azeez’s cross as the African side ran riot in the second half.
Though it was a game lacking in any real quality, the flashes of brilliance on show from some of Nigeria’s lesser-known stars had them coasting past the Reggae Bayz with effortless ease. The Jamaicans had a penalty claim waved away when Arthur Okwonkwo clattered Kaheim Dixon as the forward latched onto a loose ball amid uncertainty at the back for the Cup holders.
Unexpectedly, it took the Super Eagles less than four minutes to be in front as Yusuf reacted quickest to the rebound after Jamaica goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke parried from a near post flick-on following a long throw from the left flank.
It was two in the second half as Azeez, the best player on the pitch, wriggled free down the left, getting to the byline and standing up a cross for Moffi to nod home from point-blank range.
Deep into second-half stoppage time, Yusuf sealed the deal with a dramatic strike, securing a fourth Unity Cup for the Super Eagles. Though a triumphant finish to a remarkable campaign, Nigeria’s heroes will still be trading the pitch for the living room to catch a glimpse of this summer’s World Cup actions from the couch
