- Says death is ‘heartbreaking’, monumental loss
BY WILIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State says the death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, is a monumental loss to his family, associates, and the country.
The governor stated this while leading a high-powered delegation from the State on a condolence visit to the late Army Chief’s family in Abuja.
He said the incident was not only shocking but also heartbreaking to all those that knew and had contact with the late Army general.
In consoling the late COAS’ wife, Fatima Attahiru, and other members of the family, Governor Yahaya told them to “take solace in the fact that all mortals shall taste death and we must answer the call of Almighty Allah at one point in time or another.”
He prayed that Almighty Allah accepts the souls of the departed heroes and grants them eternal rest.
The Governor also commiserated with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari over the unfortunate death of General Attahiru and other senior military officers.
He described the late COAS as a gallant officer and fine gentleman who demonstrated courage and exemplary leadership while discharging his official duties.
Governor Inuwa said with renewed vigour, the late Army helmsman led from the front since assuming office in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other forms of threats.
According to him, he was focused on ensuring that enduring peace was brought to the troubled parts of the country while resolutely defending the country’s territorial integrity.
He said the late COAS’ gallantry and heroism will be sorely missed, especially at this trying moment in the history of the nation.
The Governor was received during the visit by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo at the official residence of late General Attahiru in Niger Barracks, Abuja.
He was accompanied by some of his Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Abuja Liaison officer, Hon Usman Aliyu Garry as well as other aides.
