Gombe United FC Gets New Bus, 60% Increase In Monthly Subvention From State Govt.
BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – The camp of newly promoted Gombe United Football Club received a boost Saturday evening with a donation of a brand new Tata bus by Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
The club had remained in relegation for the past two seasons but its recent promotion to the Premier League excited the Government and supporters of the club.
An excited Governor Yahaya also gave a marching order for the upward review of the monthly subvention of the club from N12 million to N20 million with immediate effect.
The governor, who presented the long awaited bus gift after the Savannah Scorpions walloped Super Pillars 4-0 in a friendly match at the Pantami stadium, said the gesture was in appreciation of the club’s heroic outing at the just concluded 2020/2021 Nigerian National League (NNL) season.
During their NNL campaign, Gombe United lost only one match, drew seven and won the remaining matches.
The Governor also told the management of the club to hire the best players from anywhere in the country saying that the state Government is ready to support the club to remain in the top league of the country.
Yahaya further said; “You have done well for promoting the club back to the nation’s premier league against all odds.
“Gombe United has been a household name everywhere you go in the country. You have done your part by securing promotion to the Premier League. Now, it is our turn to reciprocate the gesture,” he said.
The Governor then paid tribute to the founding fathers of the club, particularly, Senator Haruna Garba, who was in attendance at the presentation ceremony.
He also showered encomiums on the management, technical crew, backroom staff, the players and supporters of the club for a job well done.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Gombe State Sports Commission, Malam Hamza Adamu Soye, thanked the State Government for the support given to the club but solicited for more financial support to be able to execute their premier league campaign successfully.
Also speaking, Chairman of the club, Dr. Larry Daniel appreciated the support of Governor Yahaya-led administration to the club especially regular payment of players’ salaries.
Daniel also thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in him and the board members of the club to steer the affairs of the club and assured him of working assiduously in making the Savannah Scorpions title contenders.
