The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the Benue State Executive Council (BSEC) with immediate effect.
Additionally, the Governor has appointed the former two-term Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Moses Atagher, as the new Chief of Staff.
A seasoned administrator, Barrister Atagher is also a former acting Managing Director of Federal Mortgage Bank, and the appointment takes immediate effect
Announcing the decision at the close of the 12th (2025) meeting of the Benue State Executive Council, Governor Alia appreciated all the former Commissioners who worked with him for two years.
He urged those who may not be called back or reappointed to stay in the party and continue to liaise with the system, adding that they are only paving the way for other citizens who may be chosen to replace them to also contribute their quota.
A statement signed by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary, quoted the Governor as saying that apart from the Chief of Staff, the Cabinet’s dissolution affects only the Commissioners.
Speaking on behalf of the dissolved Commissioners, Barrister Bemsen Mnyim thanked the Governor for offering them the opportunity to serve the state.
According to him, “…at every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you”.
The statement directed all the former Commissioners to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective Ministries as soon as possible.
