Gov Ambode Concedes Defeat, Congratulates Sanwo-Olu
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The Executive Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday conceded defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC), primary held across the State on Tuesday.
In a rare demonstration of the spirit of sportsmanship, Governor Ambode congratulated his opponent and winner of the primary election, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Governor congratulated the winner, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and urged party members to queue behind him for an APC victory come 2019.
Describing APC as a great party, Governor Ambode said; “the interests of our beloved State must always supersede that of any person or group. It is in this regard that I wholeheartedly congratulate the winner of the Lagos State APC Primaries, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and urge all Lagosians to immediately support our party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 elections and work for the success of our dear party.
“As Governor, I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition in the remaining period of this administration and ultimately to the new Governor, come May 2019,” he said.
The governor urged all party members to remain calm and faithful, adding; “we remain one family and unite behind the candidate of the party, so that we can continue to move this state forward. The progress of Lagos state is non-negotiable. It is a project that I have passionately worked for in the last three and half years as your Governor and one to which I will forever be devoted.”
He pledged to back Sanwo-Olu as the APC candidate and work for his emergence as the next governor of Lagos State during the 2019 general elections, even as he thanked Lagosians and the Party for the opportunity to serve and lead the State in the last three and a half years.
The Governor’s position has finally put paid to the drama that trailed APC’s Lagos gubernatorial ticket for the 2019 general elections held on Tuesday in which Babajide Sanwoolu scored 970,851 to beat Governor Ambode who polled 72,901.
