Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed has warned traditional rulers in the state to steer clear of partisan politics.

He however directed them to remain focused in the maintenance of peace and co-existence among the people of their domains.

Mohammed, who stated these at the presentation of Staff of Office to the 12th Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruq on Saturday at Azare, headquarters of emirate, also enjoined the traditional rulers to exhibit leadership qualities that would attract more respect to their emirates.

The Governor charged the new Emir to use his wealth of experience as a retired Federal Permanent Secretary in surmounting all the challenges of the new office and emphasized the need for the traditional ruler to emulate the good quality leadership of his late father, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir as well as contribute in introducing more policies aimed at ensuring the wellbeing of his subjects.

Governor Mohammed, who acknowledged the contributions of traditional institutions in the maintenance of law and order, noted that the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of palaces of District Heads embarked upon by his administration would add value to all the six emirate Councils across the state.

Speaking after receiving the Staff of Office, the 12th Emir of Katagum, Umar Faruq appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for the honor done to the entire Emirate and himself and pledged to work with members of the State Council of Emirs in complementing the government’s efforts towards improving quality of lives of the people.

The occasion which was witnessed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State who was the Chairman at the event, saw the presence of Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, Minster State, Ministry of industry, trade and investment, Maryam Yelwaji Katagum, three former Governors of the State namely, Adamu Muazu, Isa Yuguda and Muhammad Abubakar.

Also in attendance were Emirs and traditional title holders as well as Head of Agencies and parastatals from different parts of the country.
