Gov Inuwa Hails FG’s Poverty Alleviation Plans For 34m Nigerians

BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has praised the Federal Government’s Agenda 2050 targeted at lifting over 34 million Nigerians out of poverty by the year 2025.

He said it is commendable that the government has adopted new approaches to achieve all-inclusive and effective participation of States and Local Governments at different stages in the ongoing process of developing and implementing the Medium National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2021 – 2025 plan.

The Governor spoke through his Deputy, Manasseh Daniel Jatau, at a two-day technical meeting on the preparation of the MTNDP for 2021 – 2025 for the six states of the North-East region.

According to him, to achieve the goal, the plan recognizes the youth population as a key driver for economic growth in the future.

“Greater opportunities for the youth and social inclusion are integrated into the theme across MTNDP 2021 – 2025”, Governor Inuwa said.

He urged the participants, drawn from all the North-East States of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe, to engage in robust discussions and come up with harmonized inputs that will enrich and make the MTNDP plan useful to both the North-East zone and the country in general.

“This, I believe, will lead to a better governance system for all of us which will ensure policies, programmes, and projects that are well planned and beneficial to the citizens and effectively delivered”, the governor assured.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Budget, Planning and Development Partners Coordination Office Gombe, Ibrahim Jalo, said the technical meeting was convened to ensure effective participation of the sub-nationals in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the MTNDP 2021 – 2025.

He said with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning already in the process of developing and implementing MTNDP 2021 -2025 and the Nigeria agenda 2050, it is imperative to evolve holistic and broad processes of engaging all stakeholders across all levels of Government and private sectors.

“We have gathered here today to deliberate on the inputs from the collated templates of the North-East States which will be used in the draft national plan. I trust you will agree with me that given the issues to be discussed, this meeting is very timely,” the governor told the participants.
