BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – The Chairman of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Mohammed Musa Sabiu, has declared that owing to the fact that Governor Simon Bako Lalong is now a political burden, he is not in a position to ‘anoint’ any candidate talk more of installing a successor.
Sabiu pointedly said that Lalong has disappointed the people of Plateau State as well as betrayed the trust and confidence that were bestowed on him in the beginning.
The ADC State Chairman, who was the gubernatorial candidate of his party in 2015 gubernatorial elections in which he contested alongside Lalong of the APC, noted that after seven years in office, Lalong has grossly disappointed the people, pointing out that the performance profile of the Governor is empty, with basically nothing to show in terms of projects or programmes that would have impacted meaningfully on the generality of Plateau people.
Sabiu, who had earlier resigned from the government of Lalong citing lack of focus and vision to move the State forward, said as it is Lalong is not trust worthy but a complete political liability, adding that it is self-undoing for any aspirant to associate with, or lean on him and hope to win election in Plateau State especially in 2023.
In the words of Sabiu; “Look at all the angles as you are coming into Plateau state; look at Jos, the State capital, is there anything here to show that somebody has been in power for seven years? “There are no roads, nothing. So, as far as I am concerned, he has a lot to do; but it is too late for him.
”The same thing in Plateau, same at the national level. Even President Buhari has failed woefully in terms of meeting or fulfilling the promises he made,” he said.
Sabiu also said that the APC made very beautiful promises in the beginning that gave the wrong impression to the people that they were on the way to paradise, but regretted that the APC government has generally taken Nigerians to hell.
He noted that it is the joke of the season for anybody, including Governor Lalong to think that he can anoint any aspirant that will become the magic wand to guarantee victory for whomever.
Sabiu further said; “Lalong has done nothing; he has nothing to show. So how can he anoint another person? Let me tell you, in Maiduguri now, there is no contest. There may be a contest later. But now there is no contest because all of them know no one has that capacity that Governor Zullum has. This is because everyone around there knows that Zullum is doing the best for the State. But in Plateau, where are we?”
He also said that one of the major problems of Lalong as a politician and now governor, is that he does not have a listening ear, adding that he has not been able to demonstrate that he is trustworthy because he has abandoned all those who helped him to become what he is today.
Sabiu maintained that up till now Lalong has not realised that he is a governor of a state, noting however that he will return to his senses by May 29, 2023 when the whole charade is over.
