Defection: Court Sacks Ex-Speaker Dogara From House Of Reps
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday sacked the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara from the House of Representatives by declaring his seat vacant.
Dogara, represents Bogoro/Dass Federal constituency of Bauchi State in the House of Representatives has not being too visible in the activities of the House since his return to the House in 2019. He was Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019.
The Court presided over by Justice D.U. Okorowo, in his ruling over the defection of Dogara from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared that it was wrong and should therefore vacate the legislative seat.
Hon. Dogara defected to the APC after winning his re-election under the PDP in 2019 as a result of his frosty relationship with his State governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.
Dogara had on July 24, 2020 dumped the PDP on which platform he was elected and defected to the APC, his former party which he had dumped in 2018 following his political confrontation with the former governor of the State, Mohammed Abubakar which lasted for about two years.
Dogara had in his letter of resignation addressed to the Chairman of the Bogoro ‘C’ Ward of the PDP dated July 24, 2020, cited a breakdown of governance in his state of Bauchi under the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed, adding that he could not successfully ask questions about those issues without being accused of disloyalty if he were to remain in the PDP among other issues of concern.
The former Speaker, who was led to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on July 27, 2020 by the former head of Interim National Management Committee of the APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni formally declared for the APC.
