Gov Makinde Picks New Olubadan Today
All is set for Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to officially announce the new Olubadan of Ibadanland today, Monday, February 14, 2022
Speaking at the final burial rites of late Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan at the weekend, the governor explained that all issues that hitherto hindered the announcement; and installation of the new Olubadan have been resolved among the stakeholders.
According to him; “This is another victory for Ibadan traditional institution; the process and the system were never broken, so we have reverted to the age-long system.”
Governor Makinde said the Olubadan in Council has already written a letter to his office in respect of the announcement of the new Olubadan.
Noting that Ibadanland has unique procedural steps as regards enthronement of new Oba, and this has been in existence for ages, he appreciated all Ibadan indigenes and well-wishers that came to witness the final burial ceremony.
The governor prayed that Ibadanland would continue to witness more developments and peace going forward.
The late Oba Adetunji, who was the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, died on January 2, 2022, at the age of 93.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has described Oba Adetunji as a visionary and compassionate leader who used the spheres of his influence to advance the progress of his people.
In a tribute to the late Olubadan, the President also said; “We trust that the process of selecting his successor will be guided by wisdom, understanding, and good judgment that exemplified the life he lived.”
