Gov Mutfwang Imposes 24-Hour Curfew Over Mangu Communities’ Killings

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – In a move to check the heightening insecurity in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) over a recent attack in the area by some gunmen.

According the state government, the decision to impose the curfew on the entire LGA was taken after due consultations with the State Security Council as part of measures to restore peace as well as maintain law and order.

It was gathered that the measure was in reaction to the recent invasion of the Farinkasa Kerana and Sabon Gari communities in Mangu Local Government by some gun-wielding criminal elements.

Forefront News learnt the assailants launched a house-to-house attack that resulted in death of at least 12 residents in the area.

A statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere, said “Consequently, movements within the Local Government have been banned until further notice except for security personnel and persons on essential duties.

“Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure total enforcement of the curfew.”

However, the statement assured the people that the government is working round-the-clock to restore peace and security in the state.

The latest development is the second time in about one month that the state government would be imposing curfew on Mangu LGA due to debilitating security challenges and killings in the area.

Meanwhile, following the incident, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar confirmed that the headquarters of operation has been temporarily relocated to the Mangu LGA to maintain law and order.

General Abubakar, is the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, expressed readiness of his team to work and collaborate with the local authorities to stabilise the situation.

He assured the communities thus; “We won’t allow the situation to deteriorate further. We are not here to joke; and so we will be decisive, fair, and firm.”
