BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has challenged religious leaders on uniting together towards building a sustainable foundation for societal growth and development.

Speaking at 45th Knight of Mulumba Supreme Council conversation holding in Calabar, Governor Otu said the foundation for societal growth starts from the family but the Church, in partnership with government at all levels, has the responsibility to harp on societal values for the sustenance of the future generations.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Owan Enoh at the occasion, the Governor praised the KSM order for the choice of the convention’s theme, “Deepening Christian Spirituality and Family Values, Roles and Challenges”.

He pointed out that the theme aligns with the philosophy of his administration’s “People First Agenda”, and pledged the State Government readiness to partner with well-meaning individuals and organisations to drive socio-economic development across the State.

In his remarks, the Worthy Supreme Knight, Sir (Dr) Charles Mbelede thanked the media for staying on course and being unrelenting at setting agenda for national growth and development.

Sir Mbelede said as an Order, the KSM is in sinc with the dictum that the press remains the backbone of democratic governance, adding that the Order has consistently utilized the opportunities provided by its annual conventions to espouse views and opinions that suggest pragmatic solutions to problems and challenges facing the nation.

He listed the Orders’ achievements to include the provision of a N10 million Naira solar lighting project at their headquarters in Anambra state as well as attracting a foreign grant of N20 million dollars from KIND ONE INITiATIVE in the United States of America USA for investment in articulated borehole projects in Ogun, Benue, Anambra and Rivers states.

Sir Mbelede expressed delight that such gesture has greatly cushioned the effect of levies and donations on the shoulders of members who are always expected to contribute toward the successful execution of any charity project initiated for execution by the Order.
