Gov Otu Dazzles C-River NUJ Members With Appointments

BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Cross River Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu has continued to dazzle the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with a flurry of political appointments since taking over the realms of office.

As at the last count, no fewer than five practicing journalists from the Council have been appointed as Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and the General Manager of the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC).

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, listed journalists already drafted into the new administration as AIT Chief Correspondent in the State, Alhaji Rasheed Olarenwaju Special Assistant on Media and Publicity; Comrade Imani Odey of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Calabar, Special Assistant on Electronic Media; and Comrade Faith Okon of the State Broadcasting Corporation as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Her Excellency, Rev (Mrs) Eyo-Anwan Otu.

Also making the list of appointees are the General Manager of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Calabar, Mr Sam Nsor who is crossing over to the CRBC in the same capacity, and Daniel Williams now serving as the Governor’s personal photographer.

Meanwhile, the State Council of NUJ has charged all the appointees to brace up to their responsibilities as critical stakeholders in the business of good governance.

In throwing a challenge to the newly appointed political aides and government officials, the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Nsa Gill urged them to always demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discipline in discharging their responsibilities.

For the NUJ Chairman, the appointees must live above board in their respective assignments in order to protect the Union’s image at all times.
