Gov Otu Tasks Muslim Faithful On Principles, Teachings Of Ramadan

BY UBON EKANEM, CALABARGovernor Bassey Otu of Cross River  State has tasked the Muslim faithful to reflect upon and practice the fundamental principles and teachings of Ramadan.

Governor Otu, who extended warmest congratulations to the Muslim community on the occasion of the 2024 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, also urged them to give thanks for successfully completing their fasting period.

The Governor’s goodwill message conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill in Calabar, noted that observing Ramadan is an essential aspect of Islam worldwide as it teaches abstinence from worldly pleasures and strengthens one’s faith through prayer and piety according to Qur’anic injunctions.

While acknowledging the love, selflessness, and sacrifices of Muslims throughout the holy month, Governor Otu charged them to continue in their good deeds beyond the Ramadan period.

He said in celebrating the Eid-el-Fitr alongside other religious denominations in Cross River State, they should continue praying for peace and harmony in the country amid the current economic challenges and hardship faced by Nigerians.

Also, the governor expressed gratitude to all those supporting his ‘People-First’ agenda aimed at restoring lost glory to society’s poor and vulnerable through well-thought-out government policies and programmes.

On the work done so far by his administration, Governor Otu said the last eight months have witnessed the rehabilitation and construction of roads and repairs of other critical state infrastructures.

He also said the State now boasts of an enhanced security situation as well as the introduction of measures to improve agriculture, education, health, and other sectors of the economy.

Further pledging to do more for the good of the state and country, Governor Otu challenged all citizens across religious and ethnic divides to always promote the ideals and value of peaceful co-existence at all times.
