Gov Otu Urges Hausa/Fulani Community To Blend Arabic, Western Education For Empowerment
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State has urged the Hausa/Fulani community in the state to encourage their children to embrace and blend both Arabic and Western education for economic empowerment to compete favourably in the fast-changing global system.
He said the pursuit of a monolithic education system is no longer tenable given the fast-emerging economic world order that is rapidly driven by technology.
The governor, who stated this while marking this year’s Eid-el-Fitri celebration, reminded the Muslim faithful that embracing both Arabic and Western education would lay a solid foundation for the youths to be key players in the new global economic order
Represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Solid Mineral Resources, Hon Efiom Ekaha Otu, the governor lauded the Hausa/Fulani community for playing the role of peace ambassadors, having maintained a cordial and peaceful relationship with their host community over the years.
Governor Otu pledged his administration’s commitment to improve and promote the welfare of everyone while also guaranteeing the security of lives and property across the State.
In his remarks, the Leader of the Hausa/Fulani community in Calabar Municipality, Sariki Ahaji Sani Baba Gambo expressed joy and happiness that Governor Otu has created a peaceful atmosphere devoid of segregation in his policy implementations.
According to him, the Governor’s ‘People First’ Mantra is devoid of race, religion, and colour even as he assured the State government of their community’s loyalty and support at all times.
Alhaji Gambo, who was born and brought up in the State, claimed that his age-long interaction with the native community has helped him to speak the Efik native language fluently, an attribute that has made him feel that the state is home to all Nigerians as long as one is willing and ready to remain law-abiding.
