Gov Wike Dismisses All Aides, Yet To Name Commissioners
BY ODOK NTUNKE, ABUJA – In his now famous dramatic fashion of sacking political aides without reasons, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Monday sent packing all his Special Advisers, except one.
Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu named the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Bishop Winston Iwo as the only aide to have escaped the drop.
The statement by Nwakaudu announcing the sack did not however offer any explanation on the reason for the Special Advisers’ sack from the governor’s cabinet.
On June 24, 2017, Governor Wike delivered a shocker to the Rivers people with his dissolution of the state’s Executive Council, attributing the decision to exigencies of the times and the urgent need to re-position government machinery for better performance.
With less than two years of his first tenure remaining, sources close to the River State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s leadership hinted that governor Wike is bidding his time in appointing new commissioners because of the political implications such action would have on his apparent second term ambition.
According to the sources, having fully pocketed the Evans Bipi-led executives and elaborately describing Bipi as ‘reliable; a very loyal and committed person’ the next move is for the governor to populate the new State Executive Council with ‘men Friday’ that would readily do his bidding without any restrain.
