BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pointedly accused Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of appointing his members of his family into juicy position with the aim of looting the state treasury.
The party specifically said that the Bursar of the state Polytechnic, Lafia, Mallam Ibrahim Adama, who is a nephew to Governor Al-makura has swindled the institution of N45 million
Chairman of the PDP in Nasarawa state, Mr. Francis Orogu, who levied the allegation at a press conference at the Party’s Secretariat along Jos Road, Lafia, also said that the refused to take any action on the matter owing to the personality involved, adding that Al-makura unilaterally appointed his nephew into the position from outside the academic community.
He also said; “The bursar made away with the sum of N15 million naira while another N40 million was found in his account, yet the state government refused to arrest him”
Orogu further said that Al-makura has equally appointed several of his relations into government positions to the detriment of other citizens of the state.
According to him; “The governor sacked seven thousand civil servants when he came on board. While the case is presently at the Industrial Court, Makurdi, yet he went ahead appointing and employing his family into government through the back door”.
Efforts by our correspondent to get reaction from the State Polytechnic proved abortive but a dependable source told Forefront News that the bursar with ten other staff members of the polytechnic have been suspended and will soon face a disciplinary
committee.
Orogu said Al-makura wants to turn the state into a personal estate for his family while the people of the state are left in abject poverty.
“He recently send the name of his younger brother Ali Abdulkadir as the state representative at the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission (RMAFC), without taking into cognisance other citizens of the state,” Orogu said.
