Governor Fubara Threatens Wike’s Men Impersonating PDP Caretaker Committee
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described a purported list of Caretaker Committee members for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), trending in the social media as ‘counterfeit and misleading’.
This was as he warned against impersonation by some members believed to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike claiming to be PDP Caretaker Committee members for Rivers State.
Governor Fubara, who stated these after a pivotal meeting with the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the PDP’s National Secretariat in Abuja, said that the discussions reaffirmed the decisions made prior to the meeting involving the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum in March 2024 regarding the authenticity of the members of the Caretaker Committee.
A statement by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Rivers State, stressed that in the light of this, a letter from the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon Umar Bature, dated March 27, 2024, addressed to Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of the Rivers State Caretaker Committee of the PDP, was highlighted as the definitive resolution on the matter.
Chukwudi further said that the correspondence solidified the list of genuine caretaker committee members, thereby effectively nullifying the disputed version circulating online and in the press.
Accordingly, Governor Fubara sternly warned against the impersonation of committee positions, stating that individuals found parading themselves based on the disputed list at any PDP office would be arrested for ‘forgery and impersonation’.
Fubara further said that no form of intimidation, covert operations, futile lobbying, or the unnecessary expenditure of public resources would alter the established stance of the party on this issue.
