BY OLAKUNLE AWONIYI, ABUJA – The Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) is to collaborate with the Green Heroes Foundation Veterans Facility Care Centre in working out an acceptable and organized welfare scheme for the widows and orphans of military officers, the needy, ex-soldiers and families of frontline soldiers.

President of NAFOWA, Mrs Elizabeth Amao, who announced this at the unveiling of the Green Heroes Foundation Veterans Facility Care Centre, said the event was purposefully fixed for July 30, 2021 to commemorate the International Day of Friendship.

Mrs Amao also said the day is to rekindle friendship and love for “our brothers and sisters”.

She said that the vision is not limited to members of the Air Force alone, but designed to provide succour to all military family whenever they are in need.

Founder of Green Heroes Foundation, Air commodore Abayomi Balogun (rtd), said he was once a war veteran adding that a lot of those in the foundation are ex-military men.

He said; “We saw what happened to our colleagues, especially those ones that cannot afford to take care of themselves (the young soldiers).

“We the officers took it upon ourselves and based on the effect of war on those soldiers as Nigeria is not paying enough attention to their needs. We feel, we should do something about them.

Balogun further said that more people need to understand the need to encourage the military, saying that one of the ways is by providing for them and looking after their welfare by taking care of their families when they are no more.

He explained that this will boost their moral and encourage them to give their best in the service of the nation.

Balogun further said that the warehouse is called a Care centre where the Foundation hope to ensure the continuous storage of palliatives to meet the needs of soldiers and their families and therefore called on spirited Nigerians to rally round and support the project.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), AVM Audu Bida (rtd), commended the wife of Chief of Air Staff for looking after the welfare of soldiers wives as a mother.
