Gunmen Abduct Former Bauchi Lawmaker, Abdulmumuni Ningi
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, ABUJA – Unknown gunmen stormed a part of Bauchi metropolis on Thursday night to kidnap a former member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdulmumuni Hassan Ningi
Ningi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, who represented Ningi Constituency in the last Assembly, was reportedly abducted on January 14, 2012 at about 8pm on his way home after the close of business.
According to eye witness account, the former legislator was accosted by his kidnappers around BSADP along Isa Yuguda Guest House and quickly whisked away before help could come from the security agencies.
The Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Wakili confirmed the incident when he spoke on phone with Forefront early on Friday morning.
Wakili told our correspondent; “Yes, a former member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, who represented Ningi Constituency was kidnapped on Thursday at about 8pm within Bauchi metropolis.”
He further narrated thus; “Information have it that he was trailed by his abductors said to be four in number in a gold colored car with which they trailed him from his destination to his house around the BSADP area at Isa Yuguda Guest House.”
According to the PPRO, the kidnappers, who were with unnamed types of guns, seized the victim and drove away with him in their getaway car.
DSP Wakili further said; “as at this morning (Friday) that I am talking to you, they have not called yet. But our intelligence men are working hard on getting to the root of the situation.”
He however urged members of the public to always be vigilant; security conscious; and take note of vehicles and motorcycles that may be behind while driving.
When our Correspondent visited the former lawmaker’s home, his family members, friends, neighbours and well-wishers were seen wearing forlorn looks and discussing the situation in groups.
One of them who spoke to Forefront briefly said neither the kidnappers nor the victim has been in touch as of 9.30am on Friday, but expressed hope that something positive would happen before the day runs out.
