Federal High Court Set To Rule In Suit Against Adamawa PDP, INEC

BY AUSTIN AJAYI, YOLA – A Federal High Court sitting in Yola, has adjourned a suit brought against the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) over the constitution of the leadership of the party in the state.

The Court is to communicate to both parties in the suit the date for ruling in the case.

This followed a preliminary objection raised by the Counsel to the INEC in a suit filed by Dr Umar Ardo against the PDP State Working Committee and the Electoral commission as co-defendant.

INEC in its submission said the plaintiff lacked the locus standi in filling a case against it.

However, Justice Abdullaziz Anka whose court is handling the case ruled that it would communicate the date of ruling to the legal representatives of the PDP and the complainant, Dr. Umar Ardo on the objection raised by the Counsel to INEC.

The Chairman of the party in Adamawa State, who double as its Counsel in the case, Mr. Tahiru Shehu Esq. said that the Reform PDP which Dr. Ardo stood for that challenge the party’s legitimacy is not known in law.

But, the legal representative to Dr. Ardo is confidence that his client will get justice.

Ardo, who spoke to reporters shortly after the hearing of the case, said that the impunity that brought in the present party executive must be challenged to enrich internal democracy within the party.

He added that he is in court to right all the illegal steps taken by the PDP in Adamawa state.

The four year tenure of the State Working Committee of the PDP is expected to come to an end this year.
