Gunmen Abduct Former Minister Of Labour, Hussaini Akwanga

The Former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Malam Hussaini Akwanga, who was sacked by President Olusegun Obasanjo in December, 2003 over the national identity card scam, was on Tuesday abducted by gunmen at his farm located on Wamba Road in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kennedy Idirisu, who is the spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, on Wednesday confirmed the incident.

Idirisu told newsmen that immediately the State Police Command received information on the abduction, the Nasarawa Police Commissioner, Mr Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, deployed his men to the field, led by Deputy Commissioner in charge of operations, to rescue the kidnapped former Minister.

“As we speak, the commissioner himself has gone to Akwanga to boost the rescue operation to ensure that the victim is released unhurt,” the spokesman said.
